Wednesday August 20

8:00am  Early Bird Hike-Join Erica and Ponda at the Boat Dock for a peaceful 2 mile hike on the Pioneer Short trail.  Wear sturdy shoes and please remember to bring water.

 

11:00am Pinecone Birdfeeders- Meet Erica and Ponda at the Camp store Parking lot to learn a quick and easy way to feed our feathery forest friends.

2:00pm  Homestead Tower Trip- Meet at the Park Office and we will caravan over to the Homestead Tower to see some of the town’s history.  Donations are gladly accepted at the tower.

 

3:00pm   Historic Homestead House- Meet at the Park Office to caravan over to the Homestead House and Museum to see what life was like in the 1930s for the early Homesteads.

 

Thursday August 21

10:00am  Animals of the Park-  Meet Erica at the Restaurant terrace to learn about native animals that may be found in our park.

1:00pm  Butterfly Craft-Meet Erica at Shelter 1 to learn some fun facts about butterflies.  Bring your creativity to make your own butterfly as well.

 

6:00pm  Canoe Float- Join the Naturalists at the Boat Dock for a peaceful float on Byrd Lake.  A sign-up sheet is posted at the dock.  Please sign up now because there are limited spots.

 

Friday August 22

 

11:00am Macramé- Meet the naturalists at Shelter 2 to learn fun ways to make bracelets and necklaces out of tying knots. We’ll provide the materials.

1:00pm  Water Balloon Fight-  Join us at Shelter 1 for a water balloon fight to cool down from the hot day.  Water balloons will be provided.  Please wear proper attire and remember to bring water to drink. 

2:00pm Paddle Boat Races- Think you’re the fastest on the water?  Meet Erica at the boat dock for a paddle boat race.

 

6:00pm  HARMONICA LESSON!!-  Meet TONY THOMAS the historian, musician, and storyteller affiliated with the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, TN.  Meet at the Campfire ring in the cabin area for a harmonica lesson.  BYOH and something to sit upon.  Usually learn a tune just by showing up!!  (Mr. Thomas will have some harmonicas for sale also.)

 

Saturday August 23

8:00am-12:00pm  Byrd Creek Clean-up-  Join Erica at the Park Office to assist with a much needed creak clean up.  Bags and gloves will be provided.  Please bring all the help you can. 

 

6:00pm  MUSIC ON THE HILL SIDE!!  Meet TONY THOMAS at Shelter 1 on the hill to listen to the sound of instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, guitar, and mandolin.  Hear stories of how they spread in the south.  BYOI (instruments) welcome.   

Sunday August 24

 8:30am   Non-denominational Church Service- Provided by the Homestead Methodist at the amphitheater.  Inclement weather location: Recreation Lodge by the swimming pool.
