Cumberland Mountain State Park Programs

All programs provided are on Central Standard Time. They are also PG, which means parental guidance is expected with any children attending.
Tuesday June 2nd:
12:00pm Homestead Tower Trip: Meet at the park office to carpool over to the Historic Homestead Tower to learn some of the areas rich history. Get a birds eye view of the homesteads as you climb to the top of the tower! (bring money for old-timey souvenirs)
1:00pm Macramé: Meet the naturalists at shelter one to make fun hemp jewelry! Supplies will be provided, just bring your creativity!
3:00pm Nature Hike: Come hike the Pioneer Short Trail! Join the naturalists at the boat dock for an afternoon two-mile hike around Byrd Lake. Wear Sturdy shoes and bring water. (moderate hike: 2 miles)
Wednesday June 3rd:
11:00am Homestead House Trip: Take a walk through the house of a 1930’s homesteader! Meet at the park office to carpool over to the Homestead House Museum.
12:00pm Canoe float: Join the naturalists at the boat dock for an afternoon canoe float. A sign-up sheet will be posted at the boat dock all week. Space is limited so sign up NOW!! (weather permitting)
2:00pm Yoga in the Park: Join Laura for relaxation yoga in the park. Come stretch, breathe, and take in the beauty of nature. Meet at the park office and bring water. All ages and experience levels welcome.
5:00pm Water aerobics: Join Laura at the pool entrance for an evening water aerobics class. Never done water aerobics? No problem! All experience levels are welcome. This workout will be fun and high-energy but still easy on the body. Bring a towel and be ready for a great workout!
Thursday June 4th:
10:00am Native Birds: Want to know what birds you are hearing and seeing on the trails? Join Ashlie at shelter one to learn about the native birds of Cumberland Mountain!
11:00am Frogs, Toads, and Snakes: Do you know the difference between a frog and a toad? Would you be able to tell a venomous snake from a non-venomous? Join Laura at shelter one to learn how to identify our native species through color, markings, and calls.
1:00pm Frisbee in the Park: Join the naturalists on the softball field for a fun afternoon of Frisbee games in the park! All ages welcome and Frisbees are provided.
2:00pm How to Make a Fire Starter: Join the naturalists at shelter one to make your own fire starter! Supplies will be provided.
Friday June 5th:
9:00am Canoe Float: Meet the naturalists at the boat dock for a morning canoe float! A sign-up sheet will be posted at the boat dock all week. Spaces are limited so sign up NOW!! (weather permitting)
12:00pm Games in the Park: Join the naturalists at the softball field for a fun afternoon of Red Light Green Light, tag, Mother May I?, and more!
1:00pm Ozone Falls Trip: This 110 foot waterfall will surely be a happy sight on a hot day! Meet Ashlie outside the park office to carpool over to beautiful Ozone Falls. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and swimming is optional.

4:00pm Scavenger Hunt: Meet the naturalists on the restaurant terrace for a fun scavenger hunt! A prize will be awarded to the fastest gatherer!
6:00pm Highland Rim Bluegrass Band: Join us for a night of good ol’ southern bluegrass provided by the Highland Rim Bluegrass Band! Meet at the park amphitheater beside the restaurant and admission is free.
Saturday June 6th:
9:00am Nature Hike: Join the naturalists at the boat dock for a morning hike around beautiful Byrd Lake. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and be prepared to cross a swinging bridge. (moderate hike: 2 miles)
12:00pm Tie-Dye!!: Join the naturalists at shelter 3 to do some awesome tie-dying! Dyes will be provided but bring your own shirt.
2:30pm Big Splash Contest: Come cool off by entering into our Big Splash contest! All ages are welcome and prizes will be awarded to the campers with the biggest splashes! Meet the naturalists at the pool entrance.

8:00pm Night Hike: Come join the naturalists for a night hike around Byrd Lake! Listen to the sounds of the night and identify which critters come out when the sun goes down! Wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight. Meet on the restaurant terrace.
Sunday June 7th:
8:30am Non-Denominational Church Service: Meet at the park amphitheatre for a morning church service.
