Tims Ford State Park celebrates its 30th anniversary this year in grand fashion. Heritage Day on Sept. 13 will be a full day of events that highlight local community history. Park manager Mike Robertson hopes the event will be the beginning of an expanded mission for the park.
“We want to add the history of the Elk River Valley into our programs and eventually, make an exhibit a permanent part of our new visitor’s center,” said Robertson.

Tims Ford Summer Programs
Join Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Sarah Hovis for indoor crafts and outdoor adventures!
Friday September 5th
4:00 pm Turtles- Come to the Visitors Center to learn about native turtles and meet the park’s sliders!
5:00 pm Trees in the Park- Learn how to identify trees using their leaves! Meet at the Recreation Building for a short walk!
6:00 pm Evening Nature Hike- Meet at the Visitors Center for a short nature hike! Trail is paved and will be about 1 mile one-way. Tennis shoes recommended and bring water.
8:30 pm Campfire- Lets meet at the Camper Check-In for s’mores and to share stories! Bring a flashlight and friends! All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Saturday September 6th
10:00 am Trash Talk- Where does your garbage go? Meet at the Recreation Building to find out what kind of “footprint” you’re leaving behind!
11:00 am Water Waste- How much water do you use? Make a water meter at the Recreation Building!
12:00 pm Oil Spills- How do they affect wildlife? Come see how oil affects waterfowl at the Recreation Building.
1:00 pm Snorkeling- Meet at the bath houses next to Shelter 2 in the picnic area and we’ll walk down to the lake for an underwater look at its residents! Wear swimming attire and be prepared to get wet! Not recommended for beginning swimmers. Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
8:30 pm Movie Night!- Come to the Recreation Building to watch the Disney classic Ferngully! Bring snacks and drinks if you wish! Movie is rated PG and will be about 1 ½ hours long.
Sunday September 7th
10:00 am Wildflowers of TN- Learn about our native flowers and make tissue paper flowers at the Recreation Building.
11:00 am Fossils- What are they and how are they made? Find out and make a fossil of your own! Meet at the Recreation Building.
2:00 pm Clouds- How do they form? Come learn about clouds as we look for cloud shapes! Meet at the softball field by the picnic area.
3:00 pm Pet Rocks- Come paint your own pet at the Recreation Building!
